Prose Version
When Rustam approached the city of Samangan, the King and the nobles heard the news that the Crown-Bestower Hero had arrived on foot, having lost his horse, Rakhsh, in the hunting grounds. The King and the nobles, along with anyone of rank, went out to welcome him. The King of Samangan asked him, "What happened? Who dared to challenge you? We in this city are your well-wishers and stand ready to obey your commands. Our lives and wealth are at your disposal." Rustam, seeing the sincerity in his words, felt his suspicions fade. He said, "My horse, Rakhsh, wandered away from me in the meadow, without bridle or halter. His tracks lead to Samangan. I would be grateful if you could find him, and I will reward your kindness. But if he remains lost, many heads will roll." The King replied, "O worthy hero, no one would dare do such a thing to you. Be my guest and do not be angry; everything will turn out as you wish. Let us be happy with wine tonight and free our hearts from worry. The tracks of such a famous horse as Rakhsh cannot remain hidden." Rustam was pleased with his words and his mind was freed from worry. He agreed to go to the King's palace and became his guest, gladdened by the good news. The King gave him a place in the palace and stood in attendance before him. He invited the nobles of the city and army to join them in a worthy celebration. Wine servers and beautiful musicians from Taraz were brought in. They sat together with the musicians so that the Hero would not be sad. When Rustam became drunk and it was time to sleep, he grew weary of sitting. A suitable place for rest and sleep was prepared for him, scented with musk and rosewater.
