بخش 12
Prose Version
The following day, King Kavus ordered Giv and Tus to prepare the army for war. The drums were strapped to elephants, the treasury was opened to pay the soldiers, and a massive force of one hundred thousand armored horsemen assembled. The army marched out onto the plain, raising such a cloud of dust that the sky turned dark as ebony. They advanced stage by stage, their glittering spears and golden shields shining like fire through the dust, until they reached the fortress where Sohrab was stationed. A watchman alerted Sohrab to the arrival of the host. Sohrab climbed the ramparts and showed Human the endless sea of soldiers. Human was struck with fear, but Sohrab reassured him, declaring that for all their numbers and weapons, he saw no warrior among them capable of challenging him. He vowed to turn the battlefield into a sea of blood. Unfazed, Sohrab descended from the wall, called for wine, and relaxed, while on the other side, King Kavus pitched his royal pavilion, and his vast army covered the plain and mountains with their tents.
