Prose Version
At dawn, Rustam dressed in his tiger skin and mounted Rakhsh, preparing for the decisive battle. He approached the field with a heavy heart, wary of his own ambition. Meanwhile, Sohrab, drinking wine with his men, confided in Human that he suspected his opponent might be Rustam, citing their physical resemblance and his own instinctive feelings. Human, however, dismissed this, claiming he had seen Rustam before and that this warrior's horse was not Rakhsh. Sohrab, though doubtful, prepared for battle. When they met, Sohrab greeted Rustam warmly, suggesting they cast aside their weapons, share wine, and make peace, as his heart felt a strange affection for the older warrior. Rustam, suspicious of a trap and committed to his duty, rejected the offer, insisting on the wrestling match they had agreed upon. They dismounted and wrestled fiercely. Sohrab, with the strength of a young lion, lifted Rustam and threw him to the ground. He sat on Rustam's chest and drew his dagger to behead him. Rustam, using his wits to save his life, told Sohrab that by their custom, a warrior must be thrown twice before being killed. Sohrab, noble and inexperienced, believed him and let him go. He returned to the plain to hunt, where Human chastised him for releasing such a dangerous enemy, warning that he would regret it. Rustam, having escaped death, washed in a stream and prayed to God for strength, unaware of the tragedy that fate had in store. Refreshed but anxious, he returned to the battlefield to face Sohrab once more.
