بخش 22
Prose Version
The two heroes, Rostam and Esfandiar, meet on the battlefield alone, agreeing that no other soldiers should be involved in their duel. Rostam makes one last attempt to dissuade Esfandiar from fighting, suggesting that if bloodshed is necessary, their armies could fight instead while they watch. Esfandiar rejects this, stating it is against his religion to sacrifice his soldiers for his own gain, and insists on a personal duel. They engage in fierce combat, first with lances, then swords, and finally maces, shattering their weapons with the force of their blows. When their weapons fail, they grapple with each other's belts, trying to unhorse one another, but both are so strong that neither can move the other. Exhausted, with their armor torn and covered in dust and blood, they temporarily separate to catch their breath.
