Prose Version
Rostam leaves the riverbank, deep in thought. Meanwhile, Pashutan, Esfandiar's wise brother, advises Esfandiar against seeking conflict with Rostam. Pashutan praises Rostam's humility and greatness, warning Esfandiar that a hero of Rostam's stature cannot be easily chained or defeated. He urges Esfandiar to avoid a prolonged and ugly feud. Esfandiar, however, remains adamant, declaring he will not disobey the King's command even for Rostam, as he fears both earthly condemnation and divine judgment. Esfandiar then calls for food and wine but, contrary to his earlier invitation, does not send for Rostam. Rostam waits in his palace for the summons, but as the mealtime passes, he realizes the slight. Annoyed, Rostam orders Rakhsh to be saddled, deciding to ride back and confront Esfandiar for dishonoring him by neglecting the invitation.
