Prose Version
Esfandiar attempts to undermine Rostam's confidence by attacking his lineage. He claims that wise men have told him Zal, Rostam's father, was born of demonic origin, with a dark body and white hair, causing Sam to reject him in shame. Esfandiar recounts how Sam ordered the infant to be abandoned, hoping birds or fish would devour him. He mocks the legend of the Simurgh, suggesting the bird initially took Zal to its nest as food but, finding him unworthy even of that, let him survive on carrion. Esfandiar asserts that Sam only accepted Zal back out of desperation and foolishness. He concludes by stating that it was his own royal ancestors who elevated Zal from his wretched state, implying that Rostam's current status and arrogance are ungrateful betrayals of the kings who made him.
